Job Description
Working on major telecoms projects throughout the UK a new requirement for a Junior IT Support Specialist has become available. This is a permanent IT support role within the Flomatik Network Services head office in Minworth, Birmingham. Our IT team is a busy and vibrant group and, due to the nature of our business most contact with the staff and customers is by telephone, email and instant messaging services. The IT function is key to the smooth running of our business, and we are actively looking to recruit a Junior IT Support Specialist. Joining our team you'll be based in the Minworth facility where we run the company's IT, Quality Programmes, Network Planning and Engineering Services.

Initially the IT support tasks will be split among between yourself and the IT manager. However, it is expected that over time you will be the main IT support provider. As you become more proficient in the role additional tasks may be added, including purchasing and asset management. You will be responsible for monitoring the helpdesk and prioritising your time accordingly, initially with assistance but moving forward independently.

Outline Typical duties would include (but not limited to):

  • Installing and configuring hardware operating systems throughout the business from this and other sites in the UK
  • The monitoring of networks
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems
  • Help desk support for the business operating to a companywide SLA
  • Being the 'go to' person in the business for IT support via email and telephone

Essential Skills Required

  • Strong organisational skills coupled with a proactive and methodical work ethic
  • Some decision making skills will be required
  • Someone with a willing and flexible attitude and wanting to help others
  • Microsoft Office - excellent working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and Email systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team but with minimum supervision
  • Have a professional attitude, but a sense of humour goes a long way too
  • IT savvy with demonstrable skills in networking and support services
  • IT Related Degree, associated education or a demonstrable existing or previous role

The IT and Network Specialist will have a great opportunity to learn a multitude of new skills and be supporting a much larger team and projects. Working hours are typically 8:30 to 5:30, however a degree of flexibility would be expected along with the ability to cover the help-desk support line out of hours.

This job will require the selected candidate to work under time pressures and manage several tasks simultaneously. The Job will be based full time in our Minworth office (Birmingham) but may include occasional travel to other sites within the UK.

The role is predominately desk based so the selected candidate would need to be comfortable sitting and using a PC for large parts of the working day.
