Job Description

Flomatik Network Services are seeking GIS Operators to work in our GIS team based in our offices near Birmingham. Working on major accounts with household telecoms names you’ll be working in the team which is responsible for all large-scale telecommunication network infrastructure projects throughout the UK (we have a cross functional team including planning, GIS and quality assurance – these teams are based in our Birmingham planning offices and also in remote sites in the UK and even overseas in one of our sister companies). Eager to learn new leading-edge GIS tools and develop in the GIS team to enhance your career moving forwards in the future, this position is seeking entry level GIS candidates through to candidates who are already skilled users of GIS systems.

Main Outline Duties and Person Requirement:

  • Taking existing planned data (including straight line diagrams) and inputting into GIS systems
  • Prioritisation of data capture activities subject to work scheduled
  • Liaise with the planning team through the GIS supervisors for data capture schedule
  • Highlight and escalate anomalies within planned and as-built data 
  • Be responsible alongside the planning team for elements of the planning pack - creation, updating and the completion of
  • Work to strict deadlines, whilst delivering high quality work with minimal supervision
  • Communicating with a variety of national utility companies nationwide to obtain their asset maps

The Typical personal attributes (skills, aptitude and understandings) might include:

  • Be ‘tech savvy’ with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, CAD and GIS programs such as QGIS
  • Proven track record of GIS understanding through work or education
  • Ability to work in a cross functional team environment
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • Ability to work unsupervised whilst delivering a high volume of quality of work
  • Flexibility to work across multiple facets of the GIS E2E process at any given time
  • Ability to draw together different technical disciplines
  • Ability to interrogate and question a planned network design
  • Attention to detail and accuracy coupled with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Relationship builder, great attention to detail, diligent and can see ‘the bigger picture’
  • Educated to bachelor’s degree level would be advantageous
  • Understanding or use a programming language such as Python would be desirable

The Process:

This is a one stage interview process. A face to face interview will be required in our Minworth office.

Physical Demands

This role is based in our Minworth, Birmingham office (please note the office is moving to Fort Dunlop building with improved transport links to Birmingham Centre from January 2020). Prolonged periods of time sitting at desk.  Occasional travel to central office or customer sites for meetings maybe required.
