Job Description

Flomatik Network Services are seeking experienced telecoms focused Fundamental / Backhaul Network Planner/s to join our team based in the UK. You will be tasked to work on major new projects with various leading telecoms companies in the UK. The focus of the work will be to expand the network into new build areas within specific geographic regions, complying with Client specifications. The role will be remotely based and in Flomatik's Central Planning office at Fort Dunlop near Birmingham and will require liaison with Flomatik's detailed design network planners and designers, GIS team, PCO plus field survey teams.

Main Outline Duties and Person Requirement:

  • Scheduling and prioritisation of Fundamental / Backhaul planning work activities
  • Progress reporting on planning work activities
  • Owning, executing and delivering planning requirements within a geographic region
  • Planning outputs to meet client design specification for civils and fibre build
  • Competent in the use of QGIS and the ability to use and employ QGIS automation planning tool either through training and/or experience
  • Produce and amend Fundamental CORE Designs using GIS, VISIO, EXCEL & ADOBE PDF’s
  • Augmenting existing plans with legacy equipment, to include new network extensions utilising the latest equipment and design specifications
  • Support operational reviews and updates with key client stakeholders 
  • Liaison with any local authority agents and any other third parties as part of overall planning role
  • Ensure all planned submissions and work is completed accurately and on time
  • Become proficient to highlight and escalate major design variances through our project team
  • Flexible approach in dealing with amendments to planned information, supporting the Network Planners with updates and changes to the Fundamental plans during the design life cycle
  • Helping with liaison of local authority agents and other third parties as part of overall planning role with the support of the GIS team 

The Typical personal attributes (skills and understandings) to include:

  • Experience and proven track record in Access Planning, HFC & fibre planning preferably with large projects and point to point fibre design experience
  • Understanding of high-level topologies and the methodologies of creating fundamental designs for towns and cities.
  • Experience in Planning main Core and Trunk Networks and an understanding of Ring and Tree & Branch network structures.
  • Strategic high-level planning experience with the ability to recognise optimum routes for cost and practicality on Core routes.
  • Knowledge of Fibre Optic cable utilisation with respect to Core network planning.
  • Civils Planning experience
  • External site survey understanding
  • Planning knowledge of legacy and current Cable/Telco/FttP access network topologies
  • Ability to draw together different technical disciplines
  • Flexible approach to new technologies and platforms
  • Able to communicate with people across multiple locations and at different levels
  • Able to identify and work with key stakeholders inside and outside of the business
  • A telecoms background coupled with a planning background is required for this position - you may have worked for one of the major UK telcos which would be an advantage (BT, Virgin Media, etc..) or from an equivalent operator in your local country
  • Attention to detail and accuracy coupled with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • A total awareness and understanding of current health and safety procedures for working in the UK is essential
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and being PC literate – additional Flomatik and client specific applications will be required (training can be provided where necessary) – MS Visio
  • Previous use of GIS systems would be useful – Gcomms, Smallworld, AutoCad, QGIS
