Job Description

Flomatik is seeking a Principle Engineer  (HFC engineering) to work on a project for one of our larger clients, which is one of the leading Telecoms providers in the UK. You’ll be reporting into the Senior Manager of HFC Engineering and the role will be full time. The base of operation will be in a location as convenient as possible for the successful candidate. This is a 9 Month contract position which may extend beyond the initial contract period.

Job purpose
  • Reporting to the Senior Manager HFC Engineering, this role provides engineering technical authority for HFC Network across the entire company footprint. Not just UK.

  • Owner of HFC Engineering of relevant products within the HFC layer and HFC Engineering roadmaps.

  • Supervision of Engineering standards in individual regions in cooperation with VPIO Deployment Managers during build phase of Access Networks.

  • Project management of network technology upgrades including spectrum, nodes and modulation profiles such as D3.1
  • Ownership of appropriate operational parameters of telecommunications network troubleshooting.
  • Supervision over the implementation and operation of Access network monitoring systems and the implementation of technological projects related to the introduction of new technologies.

  • Lead Research & Development support for HFC Engineering and Proof of Concept support with Strategy Teams.

  • To ensure that technical authority is maintained within the team and that HFC Engineering solutions maintain the required quality for the footprint as well as meeting and local and international regulatory requirements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Defines and set standards so that HFC Engineering solutions are controlled and engineered in accordance with European and International standards and meet the appropriate quality gate to ensure optimal customer experience
  • Analysing regional reports on current network operation, and demonstrating initiative towards improving the quality of technical network maintenance.

  • Analysing technical reports on the quality of Company services at client's homes.

  • Operational support for employees within the Technical Department in the operation and modernisation of Company telecommunications networks.

  • Development of recommendations for equipping technical staff with proper control and measurement equipment enabling proper operation of telecommunications networks.

  • Budgeting and analysis of costs related to equipment for measuring and monitoring transmission parameters in cable networks.

  • The training needs analysis, development of a training program for technical staff, and then supervision over its implementation.

  • Tracking new technologies emerging on the market, preparation of a plan for their possible implementation in Company networks and then supervision of their implementation.

  • Cooperation with other employees of the Corporation Technical Department within the framework of current tasks.

  • Produces engineering documentation for publication as required including standards documents, user guidelines,  planning guidelines etc

  • Provides 3rd line Engineering Support as required.

  • Supports Strategy teams for delivery of any PoC

  • Produces OSS requirements for monitoring and management of any components deployed

  • Responsible for in-life changes to deployed equipment

  • Updates and implements technical parameters in design applications based on Standards Documents

  • Works alongside other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of regulatory governance.

  • Regularly reviews engineering processes. Produces reports to identify areas of improvement and implements solutions for engineering change.

  • Recommends and suggests improvements to engineering solutions in order to improve the customer experience, keep our network capability ahead of our competitors, reduce costs, and improve network reliability.

  • Manages workload effectively to ensure objectives are met and works with manager and colleagues to ensure work is prioritised appropriately and aligns with the team deliverables.

    Knowledge & Experience
  • Five years’ experience in HFC networks.

  • Technical - Solid background in telecommunications with a detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of HFC networks.

  • Exceptional communication skills both written and oral

  • Approach should be lively and positive with a professional attitude.

  • Should undertake work in a pragmatic manner with a focus on delivery

  • Highly self-motivated, hardworking and reliable whilst practically focused.

  • Good MS office skills and strong report writing skills.

  • Willingness to take on a wide range of projects.
